Company history

The quarry was established in 1963 on the east side of Rekefjord and was called AS Rekefjord Verk at the time. The foundation board comprised Ingjerd Nerdrum, Hans Cappelen and Johan Petter Nerdrum, while Clarins Mustad was one of the investors at its inception.
Production began in 1964 with the production of around 30,000 tonnes of stone, with the first boat with Norite products headed for Germany loaded in August of the same year.

The Ansit quarry on the west side of Rekefjord was established in 1973 and was called Immerstein Verk AS. It produced around 60,000 tonnes of stone each year and the first boat to Germany was loaded in April 1973.

In 1974, Nodest Vei AS (currently NCC) established an asphalt plant in Rekefjord on the grounds of Rekefjord Stone, called Fjordstein AS. There have been several owners over the years. Until 2020, Rekefjord Stone AS was owned by Europstone Holding Gmbh and the Thomas Concrete Group, who took over the Ansit quarry from NCC in 2007 and the Norite quarry in 2008.

In 2020, the environment and resource company NOAH AS acquired Rekefjord Stone. NOAH is fully owned by Bjørn Rune Gjelsten. Today, Rekefjord Stone is a central part of NOAH Environment operations, with a focus on regular waste handling and other related activities (such as stone extraction).
